A Prayer for Patricia

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

my little girl is sick, and there is nothing i can do about it. except pray. She appears to have symptoms of asthma, and already needs to have a nebulizer at home. Doctors will examine her again on Thursday, and if she does not show improvement, she will need to be admitted. She is already taking too much medication as it is, especially for a child that is less than two years old. Please help me pray for my little girl. That our good Lord will provide healing and continous improvement of her health.

Ten more days Tricia. Please hang on. Daddy’s coming home.

Heavenly Father, have mercy on my little child. Please heal her of her ailments, and please send your comfort upon her. Thank you because I know that even now, you have heard this prayer. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Favorite Movies

Here are my top ten movies of all time:

1. Shawshank Redemption
Simply THE BEST movie I have ever seen. A man jailed for a crime he did not commit. His "adventures" inside the joint. Surreal, smart and well paced. Whenever I feel depressed, I pop this baby in, and suddenly all is right in the world. See you in Mexico, Red!

2. Godfather I and II
De Niro, Al Pacino, Brando. Need I say more?

3. Die Hard I and II
Yippee Kayay! It does’nt get any better than John McClane being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Yet again.

4. Pulp Fiction
Tarantino at the peak of his powers. Amazing storytelling. I never knew what would happen next. This is exactly like EVERY Filipino film that came out. Only the exact opposite.

5. Hoosiers
THE basketball movie. Gene Hackman as the coach who comes to a small country town in Indiana. Need I say more?

6. Rocky I, II, III and IV
The movie that inspired me to wake up very early in the morning, and jog all the way to the TOP R Pandesal store when I was a little kid way back when. Even before the IPOD, I had the training song from Rocky playing in my head while I ran.

7. Sound of Music
Ok, ok, so I had a crush on Liezl, the captain’s eldest daughter. This IS what I call MUSIC. Edelweiss…e…del…weiss….

8. Somewhere in Time
The best film of Christopher Reeve post Superman. And of course, who can forget a stunning Jane Seymour. Wow, just wow. I was seriously depressed after watching this film as a 14 year old teenager.

9. Apocalypto
In my opinion, Mel Gibson’s best work as a director. The action NEVER stops, and it truly GRIPS your heart and your emotion. Its like Braveheart on steroids.

10. Naked Gun/Mr Bean the Movie (TIE)
Now..THESE films MAKE the funny! They never get old. Do me a favor and watch these films. If you don’t laugh a bit, I don’t know what to tell you.

who are you? really?

July 17, 2007 23:04pm

when people do not see you
and you are by yourself
is that the real you
or is it someone else

when you think no one is watching
and your mind says you`re free
are you who you really are
a lying man that`s phony

ok ok, I am not a real poet. My rhyming skills have not evolved past the sixth grade. But I hope you get the drift from the few lines above. The point is, what is real to you? Are you true to yourself? Do you behave in such a way to conform to other people`s thinking? Who are you really?

I find myself asking the same questions…who am I? What am i? How would I define myself?

Here are my honest answers…really, they are.

I am an office worker.
I am a father, and a husband.
I am a born again Christian.
I love my dad, my mom, and my sisters dearly.
I love my wife.
I love my daughter.

I truly believe that a man has two sides: the good inside him, and his natural, sinful nature, which causes him to do UNTHINKABLE deeds.
I truly believe that God exists, and He wants good for ALL of us.
I feel really sad for people who declare there is no God. Especially people I know.
I am a man thankful EVERYDAY to the God that I know, who despite my imperfections, my failures, my God does not GIVE UP on me. And for this reason, I have resolved to never give up to fight the good fight, and live a life pleasing to my God.
I AM A SINNER, that will NEVER give up the fight.

How about you? Who are you…really?

QUICK PRAYER: Dear Lord, help to be the man you want me to be, even when others are not there.

Enable me to be a good husband and father. Protect me from temptation which is around me everyday, and may I not bring shame to your name.

It is my desire to honor you, and praise you with my life. Please pour your blessing upon this request of mine. In Jesus name, I pray. AMEN

Body Slammed at Bunka: 2007 Asean Basketball Champs

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Rimg0558 Last Saturday, July 7, I was invited to be a member of the basketball team that would represent the Philippines in the annual Asean Sport Festival held at the Bunka Institute of Language in Shinjuku, Tokyo Japan.
Although this was NOT the Olympics, it was exciting for me nonetheless. I had the privilege to be on the same team with my old buddies from Odaiba pick up basketball. With the Philippine team having won the championship the past three years, we had a lot of confidence going into the tournament.

We played against teams from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia(if i recall correctly). We breezed through the competition during the eliminations except for one game wherein we needed the heroics from our teammate Romeo, to bail us out with a draw on a buzzer beater. We met the Thailand team in the Finals, where Romeo, again, put the team on his shoulders during regulation and during the overtime. It was pretty intense and very physical throughout the tournament. People were grabbing, holding and pushing, and worse of all, the referees, were not making any calls. This really infuriated me and at one point during the finals game, I lost my temper a bit and yelled at the referee "you have to blow your whistle!" . Under normal circumstances, I am pretty sure I would have been T’d up. In any case, we won the championship game with a come from behind victory against the Thailand team.

Can anybody say FOUR-PEAT?
